With less than a month left to the beginning of Miss World 2014, which this year returns to its origins and will be celebrated in London, England, GB releases it’s first pre-arrival list of favorites with 116 participants (Iceland and Lesotho had not been included when the first round of voting ceased).
Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss is on a comfortable lead by now, being the only competitor to have a superior average score to 4.50 (crown material). Is South Africa finally set to win its first Miss World title since the end of Apartheid? So many have gotten very close since 1991, but none has actually taken the big prize home. South Africa’s two Miss World winners were crowned way before that: 1958 and 1974 (the second one replaced the actual winner, Miss UK).
The Caribbean goddess Dhío Moreno, from the Dominican Republic, follows in a firm 2nd place, with an average score slightely higher than that of Miss Philippines, Valerie Weigmann, who will try the back-to-back title for her country on December 14th. Don’t be surprised if it happens, this girl seems to have it all, just like Megan Young.
Thailand has a history of success in Miss Universe, but has never reached the Top 3 in Miss World history. Currently appearing in 4th place on our list, the very gorgeous Nonthawan Thonglengcould easily change that.
Rounding out the Top 5, we have perhaps a surprise: Israel‘s Mor Maman. Although Israel has a fantastic overall showing in Miss World history, since 1999 no Israeli beauty has placed even among the quarter-finalists of this contest. Her dazzling blue eyes have captivated GB’s judges for now.
Very, very, close behind, we will find Brazil, Lebanon, Turkey, Puerto Rico and France, completing the Top 10.
Once again, a very promising Miss World contest lies ahead!
Meet the 5 Miss World experts who will follow the 130 candidates every step until December 14th

The judging system
Judges were asked to score all candidates from 0.00 to 5.00, keeping on mind:
4.50-5.00 – Crown material. Candidates who they feel are ready to wear the Miss World crown.
3.50-4.49 – Top 5 material. Candidates who could easily be among the Top 5 or 6 finalists, with potential to fight for the crown.
2.50-3.49 – Semi-finalist or quarter-finalist material. Candidates who by placing among the semi or quarter-finalists of Miss World 2014, would not surprise anyone.
1.50-2.49 – Although considered “long shots”, these contestants could pull a surprise (there’s always a couple, don’t forget it!)
0.00-1.49 – Candidates our judges do not see as Miss World material at this point. Let’s see later on in the competition, this is only the beginning and first impression scores!
